Gold Award for Green Tourism ->Watch this short film featuring Woodwick Mill
Woodwick Mill has been renovated to provide superior self-catering accommodation in a beautiful burnside setting. The environment is quiet and serene with ducks, trout, grey wagtails and the relaxing sound of Woodwick Burn babbling over the flagstone bedrock. The accommodation is finished to an excellent and well-equipped standard. The eco-friendly building is highly insulated and warmed by an hydro-electric tubine and heat pump with solar panels providing hot water. Each apartment within the Mill has a bath, separate shower, fridge, freezer, cooker, microwave and Jamie Oliver tableware. There are superb views over the surrounding countryside and neighbouring islands. All double beds are King sized. With ample parking the Mill is a 20-minute drive from each of the two main towns, Kirkwall and Stromness. The self-catering accommodation is suitable for gatherings with each group or family having a separate apartment. The mill dam has been repaired and a fish ladder added to enable trout to reach the upper reaches of Woodwick Burn. We have used recycled masonry and flagstones where possible. The objective has been to restore the natural environment of the Woodwick valley for the enjoyment of guests. As the public road is at some distance the magical tranquility is not disturbed by traffic noise.
Woodwick can be a stunningly dark location, ideal for star-gazing and Aurora watching.
